Warriors of Chaos · 141–153 points · Elite infantry
Are Chosen Chaos Warriors good?
Chosen Chaos Warriors are very good, and the most dependable elite infantry I have tested so far. All three builds won about three fights in four across 16,000 simulated combats each, and the Mark decided the job.
Quick answer: it depends what you point Chosen Warriors at
- If they charge
- Khorne with halberds: 93.5% across four charges
- If they receive
- Nurgle with full plate and shields: 72.5% across four receiving fights
- Against elite armour
- Khorne with great weapons: 88% into Ironbreakers
- Struggles against
- Swordmasters: 38–46% whatever the build
Every Chosen Warrior build finished within a point of the others overall, so the right one is the one that matches the job you give the unit.
How many simulations I ran
I ran 48,000 complete combats with Chosen Chaos Warriors: three builds, each fighting 2,000 times against eight opponents, charging into four and receiving charges from four. These were the results.
My Chosen Warrior fights always started with a clean frontal charge on open ground, so the Khorne builds never paid for a failed charge roll. I also ran these fights in a newer engine than my first Chaos Warrior lab, so compare the builds on this page with each other rather than splicing them into the older tables.

Halberds or great weapons?
I think halberds are the better default for Khorne Chosen. They won 98% of charges into Clanrats against 85% for great weapons, and 78% against charging Empire halberdiers against 65%. Great weapons earned their place against armour: 88% into Ironbreakers against 78%, and 66% against charging Knights of the Realm against 56%.
How I would use Chosen Warriors on the table
If I were building from these results alone, I would start with a Khorne halberd block to clear ordinary infantry, then add either the Nurgle shield build or great weapons depending on what my usual opponents field. The Nurgle block goes wherever an enemy charge looks most likely.
Great weapons are the armour answer, but they cost timing: charging Clanrats fell from 98% with halberds to 85%. And six bodies can disappear quickly against fast elite troops, which is why Swordmasters remain the warning sign for every build.
My simulator handed the Khorne units the charge every time, so it never had to deal with Frenzy. On the table I would use screens and careful angles to stop an opponent baiting them into a bad fight.
Why Nurgle holds the line
Six Nurgle Chosen with full plate and shields took far fewer first-round wounds than either Khorne build whenever the enemy charged. That showed most against Knights of the Realm (84%) and Gors (79%), where the Khorne builds sat between 56% and 66%.

My conclusion
Based on these results, I would use Khorne halberd Chosen Warriors as a charging hammer and Nurgle Chosen with plate and shields to hold an objective. I would not use either to take on Swordmasters head on.
